Summary report call Sept 29 Updates on the draftdocument · A new section ‘Policy messages’ was added to the document; ithighlights the BPF’s takeaways. The section currentlycontains the following messages: o IXPs do not provide international connectivity directly o The need for an IXP is market driven o IXPs need time to mature It was suggested to addtext on: o The need to solve licensing issues o The need to have an accommodating cross-border infrastructure policy o Traffic is only one of the measurements to gauge the success of an IXP · Statistics on the number of IXPs, number of countries with and numberof countries without IXPs will be added to the document. An estimate of the numberof non-operational IXPs will be made in the section on challenges. It would bedifficult to find and agree on hard numbers. · A new section on ‘challenges’ was added to the document. · All are invited tocontinue to contribute to the draft document (google doc link) Survey Update · 8 submissions have been received to date. · The quality of the answers is good. · Further outreach is needed to get more responses. · The survey answers will feed directly into the text (no specificsection on the survey). · The survey should be mentioned in the introduction of the BPF document. · The survey can remain open during the IGF meeting. · All are invited tocontinue to promote the survey in their networks (survey link) Outreach · No further updates on the outreach to developing regions (CTO, LACNOG,CTU, PCH) Case studies · The text should refer to existing case studies. (input requested) 90 minute session on theBPF IXP at the IGF meeting · Scheduled on 11 Nov. 11.00-12.30 (day 2 of the IGF) · Session structure based on the outline of the outcome document · The session should start with a short but clear explanation of what andIXP is and how it works, followed by an introduction of the BPF, and then diveinto discussions on the different themes addressed in the document (role andbenefits, stakeholders and their roles, dimensions of the environment,challenges, criteria for an enabling environment). · Preferred format: enlightening talk + discussion · Input requested on thedraft schedule (google doc link) AoB · Update on the ITU consultations in Geneva (Chip Sharp) · Next call: week of 12 October - a doodle poll Recording BPF IXPs - 7th Call 57 minutes Streaming recording link _________________________
