I have just signed up for the BPF. I believe I can make a positive contribution, as I have both direct engagement in a variety of the groups referenced but also, more importantly, contacts with various corporate and governmental/including IGOs that are examining these topics, as well as block chain for applications that affect daily life on the Internet, and for use by governmental agencies and development community toward how they can be effective in achieving the SDGs.


First, I took note today of a proposal to change the name and I have to chime in that although I await being added as a member of the group, that I am disappointed that something like this would even take up time in a discussion in a new BPF.


There is a name. There is a ToR. There is important work to do  in a short time if this BPF is to achieve a useful and well established initial report, as called for, by the time of the IGF2018.


I consider debates about such items a diversion from agreeing on work.  My suggestion is that the group stick with the name that you now have and prioritize focus on the ToR and how to achieve meaningful discussions in time to have any kind of meaningful report.


Now for why I joined the group -- I think that there is a overly simplistic focus on certain companies, like Facebook, Google.

and the list of those to reach out to highly limited, given the breadth and spread of focus on AI/IOT/Big Data.


The MAGs I was on [and current MAG] are discussing how to be more relevant, and how to draw in more than the "usual suspects" especially in the commercial sector.  Major players from companies like SAS, Accenture, CISCO, HSBC, the Business Roundtable, Digital Europe [representing IT and ICT companies across all of Europe and more are possible prospects to join this BPF.


Different parts of the IGOs -- such as UNCTAD and UNESCO are also possible invitees, after all, the purpose of the BPFs is to not be insular to the MAG but to use the BPF to create a broad and more informed engagement of experts.


So a specific action idea:  This might mean that the first discussion might be: how do we create an invitation to 30-45 actual experts, spread across the areas to join this BPF?   Don't assume it is closed, but consider how you use your calls to listen to such experts, which will need to include scientists, engineers, companies, academics, governmental reps.... IGO experts.


You have a great opportunity to think differently about this BPF and that means focus immediately on the work.


I do not support the name change. it is a diversion of the need for your actual very important work. BUT, as I said, I am only now joining, so it may be that my input comes too late.


I hope that this BPF will focus on prioritizing work, and I hope I will be approved shortly to join the BPF mailing list.

Dear All,
as I referred you during the last MAG virtual meeting, there has been a request from one of the aiiotbd mailing list member to change the BPF's title from "BPF AI, IoT, Big Data"  to "BPF IoT, Big Data, AI". The request  has been broadly supported by the other mailing list members as it was felt that the amended title is more logic within the context of the IGF and helps to focus the scope of the BPF on issues related to the Internet and IG.

I hope there are no objections from the other MAG members in making the change. Please let me know.
