Fully support for this request I'd like to volunteer for this, as this is my 1st year as fellows coach in
ICANN and I hope I can share this experience with IGF too.
Indeed the WG on Outreach support would be key here.
Regarding the proposal for the session - if you want to work on a proposal to
advance things I think it would be great and I'm here to help.
Regarding the booth - I am also interested on helping on this. In ICANN how it
works is we have booth leads (could be MAG members or volunteers), a schedule on
an online shared spreadsheet and teams rotate taking care of the booth and
talking to newcomers. We could have also organizational volunteers presenting
their work on posters or small roundtables/knowledge cafes and talking about the
importance of the IGF for them. For instance, UNESCO, IGC and others. We can
join efforts also with the WG Innovative sessions.

I cannot commit to that, as the NRIs will have a booth, but we need to be
cautious about over committing to something that the MAG doesn't have time or
resources to fulfill. We also discussed a newcomers ribbon, as we use at ICANN,
and we might want to think about a Newcomers Guide to the IGF, which we could
fulfill. Segue's WG might even take that on?

Dear Chair and Chengetai,

Since we are discussing main sessions today, may I request a 5 minute slot to
discuss “Setting the Scene” session which is usually held as part of the
“Opening ceremony / Opening session” 3 hour plus slot, post lunch on Day 1.

The MAG has discussed each year the need to do something for first timers / new
comers but hardly anything meaningful or focused gets done.

It might be worth evaluating whether “Setting the Scene” can be used for meeting
the objective of providing an overview / familiarization of the IGF in general,
and IGF 2016 in particular, to new comers, including use the opportunity to help
them navigate through the fairly sophisticated but complex program and introduce
them to MAG / other volunteers from various stakeholder groups, to whom they can
turn for guidance during the IGF.

Of course, this request is “time permitting”, though I may note that it is part
of the main session planning. If we have a rough agreement, I could follow it up
with a proposal / structure to help plan the session.

Dear All

Kindly find attached a draft 2016 IGF Main Session schedule for MAG discussion
and review. Of note is that due to the fact that the host country has confirmed
the use of UN interpreters for the main sessions, we will have to keep to UN
meeting times in the main room therefore we will have a six hour maximum that we
can have interpretation daily and this draft schedule reflects this update.

A topical virtual MAG meeting on main sessions will be held next week on
Wednesday 24 August at 14:00 UTC .
