[IGFmaglist] When you have not been asked...

Let's take an informed and flexible approach:
especially with first or second timers.
I rated som workshops as 3 because they had too many of you boys and girls, or certain other 'speakers' as speakers, as I didn't find creativity and openness to new voices.
One workshop had a company as founder, and one 3 speakers from same company.
disappointing.
OR, need for help?
Let's treat this as need for help.
You may recall that I did propose that MAG members limit their speaking roles.
I intend to limit where I speak, as a MAG member, I need to be engaged in program issues. The more I speak on panels, or moderate, the less time I have to listen.
I don't know if the right number is 2 workshops or 3, and no more than one main session to support. but it is something like that....
and working to recruit and support others to replace MAG-ites.
Nothing against Mag members doing work, but let's not be in 7 places during the IGF.
Let's make this about others, not MAG-ites.
Maybe 2-3-4, no more.

Anriette, colleagues! Greetings!

I have seen my name in a number of proposals, which weren't necessarily 'terribly well-developed' as you put it!

This was a concern and a question that I had based on the fact that those who submitted workshop proposals haven't really reached out to us and ask whether or not we agree with being on the list. There is some professional ethics involved as well!

This specific situation, takes me back to the idea of whether or not we have to encourage in the workshop proposals to get names on the list.

Having the names on the list influences the entire approach to the workshop. While, from my perspective, it has to be the other way around: you come with a concept of the workshop, clear methodology and based on these, you identify people who are able to respond to the format/context that you are creating.

I think that it is often, because of the names, that we have quite a limited 'innovation' in the IGF workshops, meaning low level of interactive sessions, participant-centered, outcome driven etc.

This is an issue we have to definitely address in future.

Warm regards,
Veronica

    Dear all

I want to note that there are some proposals in which I have been
listed as a co-proposer, or presented without the organisers
having asked me to play either role.

So don't be entirely surprised if you see my name on a proposal
that does not look terribly well-developed.

Do any other people on the MAG find themselves in this position?

      Anriette
