[IGFmaglist] When you have not been asked...

Anriette, colleagues! Greetings!

I have seen my name in a number of proposals, which weren't necessarily
'terribly well-developed' as you put it!

This was a concern and a question that I had based on the fact that those
who submitted workshop proposals haven't really reached out to us and ask
whether or not we agree with being on the list. There is some professional
ethics involved as well!

This specific situation, takes me back to the idea of whether or not we
have to encourage in the workshop proposals to get names on the list.

Having the names on the list influences the entire approach to the
workshop. While, from my perspective, it has to be the other way around:
you come with a concept of the workshop, clear methodology and based on
these, you identify people who are able to respond to the format/context
that you are creating.

I think that it is often, because of the names, that we have quite a
limited 'innovation' in the IGF workshops, meaning low level of interactive
sessions, participant-centered, outcome driven etc.

This is an issue we have to definitely address in future.

Warm regards,
Veronica
