Sorry, Patrick, please read on to next email. I hit send too soon. apologies for that.
ICANN funds transcripts as part of their in kind support, and I was trying to explain that, but hit send too soon.
NO question that others can fund recording/transcripts, and didn't mean to imply that. but to also acknowledge with gracious appreciation, ICANN's current commitments and sponsorship.
NOT sure recordings are actually sufficient. Many parties who are not English speaking, can't really benefit from English recordings, but transcripts, which you were suggesting, allow for informal translations, which helps to broaden the effectiveness and awareness.
At ICANN, we experimented with only MP3 recordings, and found that transcripts, plus the recordings were much preferred to reach a much broader audience.
I think your original idea of transcripts was brilliant.

Hmmm, there's a lack of funding from ICANN for recording virtual MAG meetings? This is brand new.
While I don't understand why there would be any dependency on this to ICANN, if there is a question on technology for recording calls, I'm happy to help suggest solutions (there are many free or low-cost solutions on the market, including free options that we have, I believe).

Calls are always inconvenient somewhere in the world, I suspect lack of transcript is related to funding from ICANN

As noted before the last call, it would be really good if these calls could be recorded. That's a best practice in many multistakeholder communities, and it's also a good compromise when calls are set at 4:00 AM Pacific (or at other inconvenient times elsewhere).
Will recording be possible for future virtual calls, please?
