wonder whether the September 30th deadline is a hard one, also for a collective effort as the IGF messages would be… maybe worth asking the TEO?

Dear Jorge and all
Agree completely. It is really good that the Tech Envoy's office is getting this out before mid year and reaching out directly to the IGF.
I think it is worth WG-strategy developing a proposal for the Secretariat and the MAG on how to go about getting input from the entire IGF ecosystem. E.g. a collective input, as well as individual inputs? Or just one or the other? I would think both are good. The submission provides the option to comment on just one area or many.
The deadline is 30 September 2022 which pre-dates the global IGF but several NRIs take place before then (e.g. the African IGF and EuroDIG, to mention just two).
One possible action is for the WG-strategy to collaborate with the MAG in convening online discussions on some of the key areas in the submission form, and to submit what comes out as consensus views from those online discussions. These can be organised collaboratively with policy networks, NRIs, DCs, and BPFs.
Another option would be to convene such online sessions in different time zones but not use them to compile an input - that individual entities can do on their own, but to have discussions that talks through the GDC and what should be in it.
These options are also not mutually exclusive.
The strength of this submission form is that it allows a wide range of inputs from individual to collective ones (it asks how many people were consulted in the development of an input). If the IGF can convene discussions so that people can deliberate, debate, talk, share it can add value to this process.
It is probably worth thinking about what the particular strength and value add would be of inputs facilitated by the IGF and then develop a process that would match.

Betreff: [IGFmaglist] Global Digital Compact - launch of public platform
Dear Mr. Mitchell,
I write to you, in your capacity as Chair of the IGF’s Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group, to inform you that the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology has launched a public platform to invite submissions and inputs on the forthcoming Global Digital Compact (as below). In addition, we have also put up resources materials on how to contribute and engage with the ongoing open and inclusive preparatory process led by the UN Secretariat, as the UN Member States continue their discussions on the Our Common Agenda Report.
Given the UN’s commitment to the important role played by the Internet Governance Forum, particularly as an engaged and vibrant multistakeholder Internet community, we hope that the IGF can contribute to the preparatory process for the Compact also through this Survey, both by giving it further visibility in its networks and Dynamic Coalitions and the many NRIs at national and local level. We are encouraged by the strong interest that IGF MAG members have already shown, and the alignment of the upcoming 2022 IGF with suggested themes of the Global Digital Compact.
We believe the IGF’s contributions will be extremely valuable to the Member States and others as they progress towards the Compact. The Office of the Envoy on Technology will ensure that the results of the survey will be channeled to the membership to make maximum use of the ideas and proposals we will collect.
I copy in my colleagues from the Tech Envoy Office, as well as the IGF Secretariat/DESA, in case you may have any further questions. I remain at your disposal as well for any further exchange, and look forward to our continued collaboration.
With best wishes,
Francesca
