[IGFmaglist] MAG WG - Proposal consolidation

Dear all,

Sorry for the late answer, but here are my comments, taking into account the consolidation shared by the Chair and the productive exchanges in the mailing list:

WG on IGF improvements
As I said during our first face-to-face meeting, I fully support this WG and I'll be happy to join. In my opinion, there's a strong link between this WG and the communications and outreach efforts; also, this could be the first step towards a multi-annual effort. In my opinion, an adequate coordination between this WG and the WGCO could be positive in terms of IGF funding, attracting more people into the IGF community (including donors to the IGF Trust Fund). Last, but not least, this could be one of the main multistakeholder efforts (if not The MSH Effort) to address the IGF improvements.

WG on multi-year strategic plan
A multi-year strategic plan could be a cross-cutting approach instead of a WG. Implicitly we take this into account when we speak about new session formats, new efforts on communication or regarding the IGF improvements efforts.

WG on Communications and Outreach
First of all, I fully support Amb. Karklins opinion. Also, I think this is a key effort for the IGF community, since an adequate communication could improve the way the IGF is perceived among the skepticals. I mean, the IGF community is committed with the IGF outcomes and its difussion, but we need to partner with those who are not fully convinced about the benefits of the IGF. That's why I'll be happy to join this WG.
*If* the BPF on Remote Participation is not approved, this WG could be a good space to tackle the issue.

WG New Session Formats
As I said since the face-to-face meeting, I support this effort and I'll be happy to join. I'm sure that we could develop a good proposal to keep the spirit of the IGF 2016 new session formats.

WG on Workshop and Evaluation Process
I agree with the views of maintain this WG as a follow-up for the new mechanism of evaluation.

Dear MAG members,

as discussed at the last MAG Virtual Meeting, please find attached the current status of our deliberations on MAG WGs.  MAG members are asked to review these and get back to the MAG list as soon as possible.  Comments on all these appreciated by April 5th in order to allow updates as well as give adequate prep time to MAG members ahead of our next call.

1 - WG on Workshop Review and Evaluation Process (WG-WREP) - still active and helping to guide this years process.  Request to continue WG in order to evaluate this new process and update as needed.  Rasha Abdullah to circulate updated charter, ideally by April 5th in order to review on next MAG call.

2 - WG on IGF Improvements - good support for this WG generally, some questions on scope (improvements only or to include recommendations for multi-year strategic work plan). 3 - WG on New Session Formats (WG-SF) - Review of 2016 New Sessions and some thoughts on "Hot Topics” - document attached below.  Awaiting draft charter.  Miguel Estrada to circulate updated charter, ideally by April 5th in order to review on next MAG call.

4 - WG on Outreach and Communication (WG-CO) - Current draft attached.  Comments appreciated by April 5th, 2017 in order to be reviewed at our next MAG meeting.

5 - WG on Fundraising -  This is a POTENTIAL new WG.  Separate mail to follow soon in order not to hold this mail up.

In parallel MAG members are asked to review the MAG WG Formation and Modalities document - attached below.   Comments appreciated by April 5th, 2017 in order to be reviewed at our next MAG meeting.   We do not want to hold up chartering of new WGs, but please review this document as you update your charters.   Hopefully, this document answers many of the questions the Secretariat and Chair regularly receive.
