[IGFmaglist] GA 2nd Committee / ICT4D negotiations update

Patrick, all,

Let’s stay calm and let’s focus on what matters: the current discussion is more about the timing than the substance.

According to my latest information the following operational paragraph is under consideration:

Quote: OP 17. Welcomes with appreciation the offer made by Mexico to host the next meeting of the Internet Governance Forum in 2016, and that the extension of the mandate of the IGF be considered positively in the context of the overall review in 2015, Unquote

All in all, this would be a very positive outcome of the 2014 Resolution. It would stake a clear claim for the renewal of the mandate and the qualifier (“be considered positively”) is as a good as it can get!

Best regards
Markus

Your wording seems to be imply that the G77 are against the renewal of the IGF mandate altogether, whereas my understanding was that the question at this stage was more about the timing: should the renewal of the mandate be decided this year, one year ahead of schedule, or next year, in the context of the WSIS+10 package. Grateful for any clarification.
