Dear Shane,

Many thanks for progressing the work over the last three years, and for providing this report of progress made in 2022 as your last official act as DC IoT Chair. I very much appreciate the work done and am very happy you will continue to work with me to support the DC IoT, going forward. With you, I believe it to be important to consider the questions that came out in 2022 during our work in the year ahead:

1.	what is the right level and form of governance?
2.	Where should the security measure be placed for maximum effect?
3.	Can we have the free flow of information these devices enable without the fear of security concerns?
4.	Are we moving towards a more robust infrastructure at both ends of the spectrum?
5.	Are network operators collaborating with device manufacturers for a seamless integration?

Good core questions to build on – as we learned that also in IoT the only way forward is a multistakeholder approach, as IoT ecosystems stretch across nations and serve all, in potential. IoT has become a necessity today, and we need to be able to deploy it in a way that provides us the benefits as well as trust in the systems with regards to dependability, reliability, and privacy.

Dear all,

Getting more clarity and these, and other questions, will help us update our understanding of IoT Global Good Practice <https://medienstadt-leipzig.org/dciot/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2018/11/IGF-DC-IoT-GPP-2018-v3.pdf> towards the 2023 IGF in Kyoto. Suggestions for specific input are welcome, including links to current relevant work. Previously, DC IoT worked closely with DC CIV, DC Children, DC Accessibility and Disability, etc. We look forward to learning more from the work of IGF IS3C (Internet Standards, Security and Safety) that has been looking into legislation practice regarding to IoT as part of its work. With IoT becoming more important in our lives and how we get things done, and moving towards a next stage of adoption, it becomes even more important to consider how “good practice” looks like at a global level. In addition to the 2022 report, we will update the DC IoT pages on intgovforum as to reflect our origin as well as focus for the year to come.

Call for collaboration with other DCs

We call for all DCs that relate to IoT work to reach out to us as to ensure we benefit from each other’s work and focus. We believe IoT is quite central to a number of DC activities, and have worked closely with several DCs over time. Please consider how we can link best.

Call to all stakeholders

Join the debate, and lets work together towards more clarity how to deal with user empowerment (transparency, user control), security, privacy, and [new] ecological footprint). In addition, let’s keep a clear focus on WHY global good practice is so important to keep in mind. For this, the Sustainable Development Goals continue to provide good guidance: it is to ensure the world in the future will be one in which our children can live and prosper.

Feel free to respond to this list or to reach out to me or Shane directly if you have any specific suggestions to help progress the work, invitations to contribute with this agenda to regional events, provide links to other, relevant work or if you want to step up to help specific things happen.

Best regards

Marcus, apologies for the delay in this report. I've attached the DCIoT 2022 report on our two interim events and suggestions for moving forward in 2023 for Maartin to consider as he is reinstated as the DC IoT Chair.
