[IGFmaglist] IG Labs - IGF 2026 MAG private sector reflections

Dear colleagues,

Following the first coordination meeting of the IGF 2026 private sector cohort, held on 27 July, please find below some reflections on the IG Labs proposal. Please note that these comments relate to the version circulated before the IGF Secretariat’s latest revisions.


  *   IGF 2026 private sector MAG members suggested that the MAG should retain greater oversight of the proposal review process rather than delegating it externally.
  *   It was noted that, under the current proposal, the review group would recommend a shortlist of up to six proposals and the MAG would make the final selection of up to three. However, concerns were raised that there is no explicit provision for the MAG to disagree with or modify the review group's recommendations.
     *   Given the short timeline, one suggestion was for a small, representative subset of MAG members to serve as the review group. This could build on the MAG's existing stakeholder and regional diversity while helping to avoid conflicts of interest where MAG members are affiliated with proposing organisations.
     *   It was further suggested that, if this approach is adopted, the composition of the subset should explicitly preserve stakeholder and regional balance.

Please note that the coordination meeting was organised and held by the private sector stakeholder coordinators of the MAG 2026 cohort (Martina and Meni) as part of the broader stakeholder coordinators’ effort to consolidate feedback and information from each MAG stakeholder group.
