Dear Lynn
Dear all,
Sadly I had to leave Geneva sooner than I wanted
I don’t believe this “call for issues” is needed at all
The call for ws will tell us clearly which issues are relevant for the community and then our responsibility as MAG members must be to merge proposals and arrange them in a smart way
I prefer to focus our energies in improve the way ws works, specially in how every stakeholders are well represented in all ws, and how we can obtain valuable ideas from each of them
I strongly believe we have to introduce changes in the way we accept ws (we have to guarantee equal participation from every stakeholder, region, gender, etc… in a stricter way), include issues relevant for every stakeholders (not only the most “voted” issues), and then find a way to extract the most important debates and views to a high-level track. I suggest to strength the role of Rappaports, including them in a High-Level final day track with a WS for each basket/issue, with the participation of representatives of every stakeholder designated by MAG.
Anyway, I agree with you about we don’t have more time to lose, even while I don’t believe the poll is needed, as the MAG decided to go on that way, I prefer to make it ASAP.
Best,
Pablo

Dear Lynn,
When the "call for issues" is open, there will be need to explain this (call for issues step) further to the community. Traditionally, the IGF is used to "Call for Workshop" and other community not familiar with new concept we adopted will need guidance. I would urge the Secretariat to emphasis this point lest we evaluate more that 200 word issues.

Dear Sala,
thank you for your comments.
The classification of issues is not the most pertinent part of this exercise. They are more of a tool to facilitate review of the issues submitted by the community. The exercise is focused on identifying the issues the community is most interested in - that is the critical part. The MAG will be evaluating the 200 word issue submissions, and I expect many issues will cut across “baskets” and it is the “issues” that the MAG would take forward. The “issue baskets” may even be aggregated differently depending upon the issues we receive. And, then all this will be translated into themes or tracks as we always have.
To your second point, the MAG is committed to being as broad and open in everything we consider as possible. Over the course of the MAG meeting there were inputs from many regions and sub-regions - volunteered and requested. I specifically recall comments - verbal and in the chat room from many of these. In addition, there were a number of topics that were suggested by the Community or the MAG over the course of the three days that were also evaluated and brought into the “Chair and Secretariat proposal”. The Chair and Secretariat proposal was made specifically to try and ensure full representation of views. However, if you feel something is missing, please suggest it.
Hope this clarifies the purpose of the "issue baskets” and how we arrived at the recommendation. Given the late start, we really do not have the luxury of delaying the poll.
Best,
Lynn
