Agree that it’s better to hear from the Secretariat (may be even before that – in an email?) about the two options, and also about the possibility of combining option 1 and 2 wrt meetings 2 (e.g. April vs June) and 3  (June vs September)? If we have something in writing before the 18th, it will be faster and easier to have a discussion then.

It seems that I was not alone in already making preparations for the Jan28-30 meeting in option 1.

Nevertheless, I think it will be interesting to hear from the Secretariat and Lynn during next week’s call about the thinking behind the different options. It might well be that there are some elements of both options which are attractive and we end up with some kind of hybrid timeline. I look forward to hearing more on the call.

I have conflicting appointments for the last two of the three meetings in the Option 1.
I rather prefer option 2, or at least moving the third meeting of option 1.

Can you clarify that the 28-30 January meeting will take place, regardless of which timeline proposal is taken forward? That was my understanding from the 4th December email which announced that “the first face-to-face 2019 Open Consultations and MAG meeting will take place on 28-30 January 2019” and I booked plane tickets and a hotel on that basis.

Please find the two draft proposals for the timeline for IGF 2019  preparations. Both versions are subject to adjustments.


The first proposal has the three Open consultations and MAG meetings, all in the first half of the year (end of January, April (with the WSIS Forum) and June). The first face to face is earlier (which we have announced). There is a bigger time gap between the last face to face meeting and the annual meeting.


The second proposal spreads out the three Open consultations and MAG meetings (end of February, June and September) eliminating the gap of the first proposal between June and November where we do not have a face to face meeting. It delays the start of the intersessional work by two weeks and close of the call for workshops and other sessions by one week. But, it gives a bit more time for work between the meetings.


We will be discussing these in our first virtual call on 18 December and hopefully fixing the timeline for 2019.
