thank you to everyone for all the thoughtful responses.  It is indeed VERY important that we rotate regions.

And, the initial interest from several countries (quite a number of countries in fact) in hosting IGF 2018 would have met that criteria.  Unfortunately, for various reasons they all fell through.

We are very grateful to those countries and UN entities that are working hard to host IGF 2018.  We are all doing our utmost to maximize the *fit* for 2018, against several criteria (regions, dates, size/appropriateness of venue, etc,),  and very much hoping there is in fact, a choice.

On the good news front, we have a host for 2019 confirmed (and hosts very far advanced for 2020 and 2021).  We are also hoping to be able to confirm 2022 before years end.
Should the 2018 venue be in Western Europe, (and given that would be 3 years consecutively) we will ensure future years rotate amongst other regions.
