[IGFmaglist] Pending issue on startup of WG on Improvements

Hi,

In addition to the startup activities like creating an IGF list for the
WG and announcing the group to the larger community, we had one pending
issue concerning the co-chairs makeup of the group.

The doc currently reads:

*The WG *w*ould be co-chaired by [one MAG member and one non MAG
community member, two MAG members] to be picked by the group. *

I.e. there is a decision to be made between:

- the WG proposal's initial recommendation for one chair from the MAG
and one from the general community

The thought behind this was that Inclusion of the community in both the
group and the leadership helps with the inclusivity of a group where
having IGF community buy-in is critical.

- That both co-chairs be MAG members

The comment received on this:

a MAG WG should not be Chaired by non-MAG people –it’s a mistake to undo
that precedent. There are 55 diverse people to choose from.
Non-MAG/ex-MAG often hold space too long so new MAG folks don’t/can’t
take responsibility. Non-MAG/Ex-MAG folks in the group makes lots of
sense however.

It would be good to get this issue resolved before the initial
announcement goes out to the community. It was recommended by Lynne in
our last meeting that I take this this issue to the list.
