[IGFmaglist] REQUEST TO DISCUSS “SETTING THE SCENE” AS PART OF THE MAIN SESSION PLANNING CALL

Dear Chair and Chengetai,

Since we are discussing main sessions today, may I request a 5 minute slot to discuss “Setting the Scene” session which is usually held as part of the “Opening ceremony / Opening session” 3 hour plus slot, post lunch on Day 1.

The MAG has discussed each year the need to do something for first timers / new comers but hardly anything meaningful or focused gets done.

It might be worth evaluating whether “Setting the Scene” can be used for meeting the objective of providing an overview / familiarization of the IGF in general, and IGF 2016 in particular, to new comers, including use the opportunity to help them navigate through the fairly sophisticated but complex program and introduce them to MAG / other volunteers from various stakeholder groups, to whom they can turn for guidance during the IGF.

Of course, this request is “time permitting”, though I may note that it is part of the main session planning.   If we have a rough agreement, I could follow it up with a proposal / structure to help plan the session.

Kindly find attached a draft 2016 IGF Main Session schedule for MAG discussion and review. Of note is that due to the fact that the host country has confirmed the use of UN interpreters for the main sessions, we will have to keep to UN meeting times in the main room therefore we will have a six hour maximum that we can have interpretation daily and this draft schedule reflects this update.

A topical virtual MAG meeting on main sessions will be held next week on Wednesday 24 August at 14:00 UTC.
