[IGFmaglist] Briefing on IGF 2015

Dear all,

This is to provide you with some more information regarding the briefing on the Joāo Pessoa meeting to WSIS Forum 2015 participants tomorrow, 25 May, from 16h30 to 18h15 at the Popov Room (which, actually, will be split in two; I think our meeting will take place at Popover 1).

The purpose, naturally, is to provide relevant information on the X IGF and reiterate invitation for participation at the meeting itself and for engagement in its preparatory process.

At the podium would sit a limited number of representatives from the host countries and MAG members + Secretariat who would help to kickstart discussions by making short and focused interventions. Chengetai will not be able, unfortunately, to join us, but we expect that Elia Armstrong or another representative from UNDESA or the IGF Secretariat might do so. Our Chair, Janis Karklinš, will also participate, although by remote entry. Besides, all MAG members who will be in Geneva tomorrow are kindly encouraged to join us and contribute to the proceedings. 

This is, in principle, my proposal to organize the briefing session:

- Opening statement (IGF 2015 date and venue; overall theme and sub themes; importance of the meeting in the context of this year's events on IG; announcement of other speakers) 5'

- Janis' statement (background on IGF, preparatory process) 

- Constance Bommelaer (Intersessional work leading to novel outcomes; message from ISOC? ) 

- Marilyn Cade (importance of IGF from the perspective of business?)

- Representative from the Brazilian Steering Commitee (logistics)

- Interventions from other MAG members 

- Questions and Answers

Looking back, and in spite of the challenging agenda we had to deal with last week, I think we may have missed the opportunity  to further discuss the preparation for tomorrow's briefing session and nail down a few details. The proposed themes for initial speakers were, by the way, not discussed at all and therefore rather reflect my personal attempt to try to cover the important messages we want to deliver and to avoid overlap in presentations. I would be very happy, however, to benefit from your comments and guidance on any aspect regarding the briefing session. It also occurred to me - sadly, too late- that an special coordination should have been sought with the Outreach WG led by Dominique.

We have not prepared any material for distribution, although I am aware that some  flyers which have been prepared by the Outreach WG might be made available. Any other supporting material will be welcome.

Finally, I propose that all those interested could sit together at lunchtime tomorrow  in order to exchange views on the final format of the briefing session and on the messages to be delivered.
