Thanks, Lea, for this introductory email about the WSIS +10 organizing.
We will be convening a discussion among MAG members who volunteered to join in organizing WSIS +10 and also, if you are interested in collaborating but have not yet volunteered, let me know via email, and we can get started in discussion.
For MAG who are remote, we will ensure notes if we meet informally, and take up planning via online and webex to follow.
Also, we have another country that has joined the organizing group.
I'll confirm with Secretariat on the idea of Friday's gathering.

Subject: [IGFmaglist] IGF main session on WSIS+10
Dear all,
During today’s discussion on IGF main sessions, a number of
you expressed support to have one of the main sessions at this year’s Forum on
the WSIS+10 review process. At the moment, we have a placeholder for this
session on the morning of Day 2, pending final MAG approval.
To briefly recap, as most of you know, starting in June, the UN General
Assembly will be reviewing the WSIS framework, its outcomes (IGF being one of
them) and their implementation, culminating with a high level event in December in NY. Issues
on the review agenda will include dealing with the continuing challenge to
achieve a people-centered development-oriented information society, as well as
a number of underlying governance issues, including IGF renewal. With ICT4D
practically ignored within the new SDG agenda, the WSIS is currently the sole international
framework that focuses on harnessing the potential of knowledge and technology
for development. Furthermore, although the exact modalities of the review are
still TBD, what we know about the process so far raises some concerns about the
review’s openness to non-governmental stakeholders. Bringing this to the
attention of the IGF community, and seeking their input at this year’s Forum
seems like a timely and strategic move.
According to my record, so far, Ephraim, Marilyn, Victoria
and myself volunteered to help with preparations for this session. Recognising
the importance of the task of organising a main session at the IGF, it would be
great to have more people join the group and provide their experience and
expertise. If you are interested in contributing, could you make a note on this
list by COB tomorrow?
In the interest of getting an early move on shaping this
session, I’d like to suggest that the group meets for a preliminary
brainstorming before COB on Friday.
For those of you not in Geneva, please feel free to share your
thoughts on the MAG list.
Many thanks.
Best,
Lea
