Thank you for the feedback on the framework document for developing "Policy Menus for Connecting the Next Billion".


I note that some comments are also made on the version Patrick posted online<https://docs.google.com/document/d/14yfJTiCpGfUTybEMW7i6OxMn_YDTdbm5qiLpTK-tczg/edit?pli=1>, but colleagues can also comment on the Word version (attached) if more convenient. Additional suggestions from the group are welcome.


I believe we will have a chance to discuss this framework during the MAG call today and then again during the physical MAG meeting (20-22 May).

Dear Constance and All,

A huge thank you for including my comments and concerns—my question was not intended to slow anything down, I hope you understand, and I apologize if anything I wrote gave that impression.  I know that there can be divergent experiences/opinions with an issue, and this may be particularly relevant for developing countries that have unique circumstances, which is why I felt these framework edits are so important.  So, if you can indulge one further nit-picky edit, I have one in the attached document.  Many thanks to all of you for listening, I really appreciate it, and thanks especially to the team who worked so hard on this framework—I know the drafting process is never easy and appreciate all of your hard work.  I am truly thrilled that you all have chosen this topic—introducing it in December for consideration was very scary for a first time MAG member, I must admit!  Looking forward to catching up with everyone soon in Geneva.

I have been informed that it would be more convenient for some of you to comment on a Word version (vs. a Google document) of the draft framework for developing "Policy Menus for Connecting the Next Billion". For your convenience, it is attached to this note.



ASK:

Additional suggestions of modifications would be welcome ahead of our next MAG meeting (20 May). If the MAG reaches final agreement, the process for gathering additional public input would be to launched shortly after.



Fyi - After checking with several organizers of local and regional IGFs, it appears that the theme "Connecting the Next Billion" is being picked-up by a number of them, which is encouraging.

It would be useful that the MAG finalizes next steps to develop the "Policy Menus for Connecting the Next Billion" in a near future. Using the on-line version of the framework document provided by Patrick, I have amended in track-change the proposed schedule of activities: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14yfJTiCpGfUTybEMW7i6OxMn_YDTdbm5qiLpTK-tczg/edit?pli=1



It is proposed to reach consensus by postponing the call for public contributions after the next MAG meeting (20-22 May), while fine-tuning the draft methodology and continuing to encourage regional/national IGFs to contribute as they have already been invited to do so.



ASK:

The framework document was developed over the past weeks/months through an iterative process. Please make any suggestions of amendments to the framework document<https://docs.google.com/document/d/14yfJTiCpGfUTybEMW7i6OxMn_YDTdbm5qiLpTK-tczg/edit?pli=1> (principles or time-frame) ahead of the next MAG meeting (by 20 May). We would then launch the public call for input shortly after that meeting.
