Dear all,

As I will unfortunately not be able to participate to today's MAG call, allow me to share a written update on the Best Practices Forums (BPF).

Following our last call where it was felt that we still needed to narrow the scope of the themes of the BPFs, we have been discussing on-line with an extended group of volunteers. Among the various themes initially envisioned, narrower topics were extracted - topics that offer a practical/tangible angle and lend themselves to discussing best practices. Volunteers were then asked to bring down the list of themes to a manageable number.

The following topics were identified as the most suitable for BPFs:

1 - Developing meaningful multistakeholder participation mechanisms
2 - Regulation and mitigation of unwanted communications (e.g. "spam")
3 - Establishing and supporting Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) for Internet security
4 - Creating an enabling environment for the development of local content

Next proposed steps:
-----------------------------
- Request confirmation from the Secretariat on the number of slots available for BPFs (3 or 4?)
- Engagement of relevant experts/stakeholders through dedicated mailing lists/calls, identification of existing best practices, making resources available to all on the IGF website, discussing and documenting common ground in best practices, organizing the Istanbul sessions, completing the BPF reporting template (attached), etc.

Thank you and best regards,
