again, my apologies that I had a commitment that I could not change. I had hoped to participate in today's Virtual MAG session.
I too feel confident that the improvements that the MAG has made will enable stronger participation from new players. Now, our goal is to go find those new players, and help them submit proposals.

Dear All (MAG members, colleagues and friends) ,
Thank you Chengetai for the information. It is very helpful and will give us a clearer sense of the numbers at hand. 


Ahead of the first virtual call, since the first meeting of the MAG in Geneva for the year 2014, I wish to give a shout out, to all those who have made this journey on the IGF workshop submission and ratings process improvement possible. What started as questions, sharp, uncomfortable yet necessary ones and suggestions, at the MAG meeting and open consultations in Geneva in May 2013 has come to fruition in the form of these guidelines, 2014. 


Significant changes and improvements in the evaluation process and guidelines 2014 for submissions for participation:


No more than 3 proposals from any individual or institution will be accepted for consideration.

 MAG members may not submit proposals, but institutions associated with the MAG members may do so.


Also MAG members to be mentors and not just evaluators of the proposals and workshops- to ensure high quality of submissions yet facilitate new and diverse proposals, to bring in new voices.

A three stage process where roles for MAG members are clearly defined as Mentors/Coaches, Evaluators, Appeals/Review group

I am particularly pleased to see that there is a separate mention of developing country participation as a parameter for consideration for evaluators (we might need to discuss on the operationalisation of this a little more, while evaluating)

And also emphasis on diversity including gender and geographicalIt is also greatly satisfying to note that consideration will also be given to the innovativeness of the format

These are extremely significant changes in the IGF since it's inception and from being mere suggestions on improvements they will see actual implementation in the IGF 2014.


A big thank you is due to Markus for initiating this, as the chair and for listening, to Fiona for taking the lead, to Susan for making sure all the diverse ideas and conversations including the ones on the side actually translated into implementable ideas, to the entire breakout group that gave freely of their time, to Janis for chairing an excellent first meeting and for carving out time even when there was none like a true statesman and above all to the secretariat - led by Chengetai and his wonderful team for always listening, responding and facilitating changes and welcoming improvements despite every imaginable constraint and against all odds. And to all the new MAG members who contributed in the true multistakeholder spirit that IGF represents.


 I hope that this year, we will have the best ever IGF 2014 in Istanbul. In the same IGF spirit of openness, transparency, inclusivity and the ability to ask fearless questions of ourselves and others while remaining an enabling platform, where conversations flow freely and ideas translate into real changes.
