Dear Markus,

Let me join all the colleagues that already expressed publicly how much we regret your decision and I also join them in extending my deep gratitude for your time and to have used your utmost diplomatic skills to have steered such sensitive endeavor in such sensitive times.

And let me also to thank you very much as you’re still trying to figure out a way to surpass the first of the several bottlenecks that will come upon until MAG will take place… and your suggestion to send a note to UNDESA expressing your suggestions seems to me the most wise one.

All IGF process is still very fuzzy and will continue to be as it is the will of many parties, and we have to know how to handle them in the most wise way, one by one.

Warm regards,

Ana

Dear all,

I thought I would let you know that I informed UNDESA's Assistant-Secretary-General Thomas Gass that due to other commitments I will not be available as this year's Interim Chair.

I also expressed the Internet Society's concern about the delay in the appointment of the Special Advisor to the Secretary-General on Internet Governance. We share the view expressed by many on this list that it is urgent to appoint someone to provide political leadership to the IGF, especially during this crucial 2014/15 period. Relying indefinitely on a stop-gap measure is not sustainable.

Let me conclude by thanking you all for your support and the excellent cooperation we enjoyed throughout the past months. Together we succeeded in making the Bali meeting the best IGF meeting ever. 2014 will be a decisive year for the IGF in a rapidly evolving Internet governance landscape. If the IGF is to retain its relevance, Istanbul needs to reach new heights!

I wish you you much success in preparing the 2014 IGF and making it the best ever!

Best regards
Markus
