[IGFmaglist] Next steps FW: Capacity Building Track of the IGF Bali

Dear all, 

following the MAG meeting discussion, let me again share info about the
capacity building track and how to incorporate it in the IGF Schedule.

The proposed changes in the current xls with schedule, in order to reflect
the CB Track

-          Day0: Instead of Roundtable, there will be a "Collaborative
Leadership Exchange", lasting 4-6 hours (6 preferably), if possible.

-          Day 1: The orientation session should last for 3h preferably
(else at least 90min) with interpretation, in a smaller room (not main hall)
with app. 100 participants, starting from 9am

-          Day 2-4: The orientation session should last for 90min, without
interpretation, in small room with app. 50 participants, starting from 9am

-          Day 4: The Capacity Building Roundtable should take place, with
interpretation, in roundtable room if possible, with app. 50 seats, from
11-12.30 (Room 10 seems unallocated)

All session organisers should be invited to inform the Secretariat if they
consider their session to be also of educational/awareness raising
character, or directly about capacity building. These sessions would be
marked as "CB Track" also in the programme.

Organisers of any other type of activity (incl. side events, open forum,
Village events etc) whose work will be of educational/awareness raising
character, or directly about capacity building should also be invited to
inform the secretariat; these events would be marked as "CB Track" also in
the programme.

All MAG members are invited to look for interested experts to help with
Orientation sessions, to explain issues in their field of expertise (they
should contact Judy and Vlada, or join the CB list)

Based on the previous discussions related to Capacity Building Track of the
IGF in Bali, here are the main suggested components:

CB Track outline

Pre-events (Day 0):

"Collaborative Leadership Exchange" by ISOC and others will be organised in
an "unconference" manner, involving fellows from various CB programmes but
also anyone else interested.. This event will help networking and open
discussion, feeding into Orientation Session concept.

Interpretation would be needed for the first 2-3 hours, the next 2-3 hours
would be group work. Other CB-related events, if any (none for the moment).
Adjustable room layout is needed, with number of microphones, white-boards,
etc.

Orientation Sessions (Day 1-4):

Following successful model of last year, it will now be extended into
several sessions: 3h on day 1, and 1.5h on days 2-4. It will serve mapping
the overall IGF and other diplomatic/political processes, main actors and
ecosystem, various topics, and help newcomers to understand how they can
engage during and after IGF and benefit from it. 

It will be highly interactive, with group work, with assistance of
facilitators and volunteer experts in various topics/thematic areas.
Interested facilitators and experts are invited to let us know.

Adjustable room layout is needed, with number of microphones, white-boards,
etc. 

Roundtable (Day 3 or 4):

This 60-90min session would be an opportunity to talk _about_ CB, analyse
what worked at the IGF and what should be improved, what are the needs in
between the IGF meetings, etc. Instead as a pre-event, it was suggested to
have it on Day 4 (or, if not possible due to tight schedule, on Day 3
afternoon), to be able to discuss what took place. The outputs would be fed
into Taking Stocks session and the report.

Workshops (Day 1-4):

The accepted workshops that have a capacity building effect or are about
capacity building will be identified, and marked in the IGF programme as
part of CB track.

Other events and activities (Day 1-4):

Other events and activities (such as open forum, side events, Village
events, etc) that have a capacity building effect or are about capacity
building will be identified, and marked in the IGF programme as part of CB
track.

MAG is invited to comment on this overall outline.

The Capacity Building Group of MAG will discuss the details of each
component.
