Dear Peter,

Many thanks. We actually never discussed the Terms of Reference of this group. I thought the group was here to make sure the MAG would take into account the recommendations of the improvements WG to make sure we would make every effort to be in compliance. That is a more inward looking focus - which would be very helpful. I don't think it is in the remit of the group (nor the MAG) to assess the work of the Secretariat or the UN.

I also have my doubts whether the MAG has the authority to submit any document to the GA. There is an additional argument: Before the CSTD Working Group on Improvements to the IGF was set up, many made the argument, that the IGF had a history of self-evaluation. This was rejected by others, who felt that self-evaluation was self-serving and had no credibility. Similarly, they would also reject any assessment by the MAG as not credible. The assessment should be made by the UN.

Let's discuss this next Friday.

Best regards
Markus

I believe it is important to provide this information to the UNGA In view of its upcoming resolution about WSIS+10.
